There should be a youth track and field program in Bismarck that does not require a parent/youth to join a national organization. In this case, United States of American Track and Field (USATF).

Youth Summer Track should be very affordable and offered by the city's Parks and Recreation Department. Cities need to work with whomever controls the running track so not to over charge for rent, or better yet allow to use for FREE. All of the following cities below in North Dakota offering a TRUE Youth Recreational Track & Field Program.

High School athletes who want to participate in USATF meets most likely participated in high school track and field. So, they are in condition and ready to go. The last thing they need is more practices and meets in June. Middle school age is basically in the same situation. This is why it is best to keep the summer program for ages 5-12. I always recommended high schools who participated in track and field to take June off, or only participate in the USATF meets if you don't mind traveling. Traveling can be expensive (lodging, food, gas, etc.). Fargo has a private USATF Club BUT ALSO offers a Youth Track and Field through the Parks and Recreation Department!!

Currently the only youth track and field program (5-12) in Bismarck is a USATF program with the intention of traveling and overpriced for 5–12-year-olds. The summer youth ages 5-12 track and field program should not be intended to be a feeder system for the school district, that will happen naturally on its own. The Bismarck Parks and Recreation Department should be offering a recreational, affordable program like the other cities in North Dakota.

Have several elementary physical education teachers run the program. Jill Vallejo has the portfolio for these teachers in the Bismarck School System.

Below is a list of North Dakota Parks and Recreation, Recreational youth track programs.

It is staffed by current and former high school and college coaches and athletes. I added this link to show even Colorado offers a recreational version for youth track. I coached for it when it first started in Fort Collins, CO back in the 1990's thru the city's Parks and Recreation Department!
